This was the first track we recorded. I had just played the original, upbeat version for Lynn and Scott (the producers) and Lynn said, "Let's slow it down. Make it ache." I grabbed a guitar and started playing slow, single notes around the 9th fret. Lynn drifted to the vibraphone. Scott set up some mics and grabbed another guitar. It was a rare studio moment - for me anyway - to record something so quickly. One take. It was naked. No reverb. And a scary but honest start to the CD.
