One of my friends signs off her email messages with this line: "Be kind. Everyone is fighting a hard battle." It moves me and gives me pause every time I read it. This song is based on the story of my calculus professor when I was at university in the 1980s.
lyrics
The 3:17
Words and music by Katherine Wheatley
It's a long way to walk
And I'm walking alone
The sound of my step
Is the sound of my home
Christmas comes 'round each December
Robins return every spring
Wild aster blooms each September
But some people don't come back again
I carry what's needed
Plus one photograph
I've cried so damn hard
All I do now is laugh
Christmas comes 'round each December
Robins return every spring
Wild aster blooms each September
But some people don't come back again
I used to teach math
Used to fix things for fun
The 3:17
Killed my wife and my son
Christmas comes 'round each December
Robins return every spring
Wild aster blooms each September
But some people don't come back again
